Re: Doomwatch (1970)

I watched The Plastic Eaters just last night after finding out they were on YT. Great fun. Just the kind of BBC video drama with filmed inserts we like. The fact that it's an old show made me chuckle at the old Ridge's sexist antics, and John Paul still reminds me of Pertwee just as he did back in t...

Re: Rate "The Talons of Weng-Chiang"

As an aside to this Indicator have recently announced an October release of the complete Fu Manchu film series starring Christopher Lee. I know it's different from broadcast but just sayin'. They were also broadcast very recently on Talking Pictures TV too.

Re: Chibnall or Moffat, who was the better showrunner?

Bad as both RTD and Moff were at times Chibnall hasn't got half their talent. Occasionally they were even gifted. I struggle to think of Chibnall being a writer. Looking at that Cyberman in fancy dress on the cover of the latest DWM I just remember him and his mates on live telly calling JNT and the...

Gosh, that really is terrible innit? A Cyberman in fancy dress. And Chinball and his mates had the nerve to accuse JNT and the Bakers in turning Who into a pantomime.

It actually puts me off.

R. I. P. Maestro. Dead at 91 after injuring his femur in a fall, very serious at that age. Of course it's a good age, especially for a still active composer, but still sad. His music will live forever. Indeed he lead the way for those pesky Italians to eclipse the efforts of the homegrown Hollywood ...

I just can't believe how rudely worded the rejection was. And baffled as to what they've got against the US.

Re: Rewatch Doctor Who: The Deadly Assassin

Watched it just a couple of weeks ago. Still an A grade classic. Not the team's fault that modern showrunners have gone ott with the history. They could use all the trappings and design etc., that DA does without re-writing the book. This story indeed does no info dump. It concentrates on telling a ...

Re: The Thirteenth Doctor's Outfit: Do you like it?

I've said it a million times and I'll say it again, my stock description of that awful outfit, though one might say it suits the particular 'Doctor' wearing it.... The outfit looks like something a member of Bananarama would wear whilst presenting Rainbow. Or any other similar tiny kids show. It cer...

Re: The BEST movie you've never seen

Interesting that both Vertigo and Citizen Kane are being discussed here. Both with interesting scores by one of my very favourite film composers, Bernard Herrmann. The difference is that Vertigo is top-drawer entertaining, and CK is of course a very acquired taste. The music is better in one than th...

Re: Rate "The Space Pirates"

All I can say is that if it was returned to the Beeb tomorrow and released on disc, I wouldn't hesitate to buy it, and I've never got round to finishing off the McCoys. In fact off the top of my head I don't think I've got more than half a dozen of 'em. But six episodes of Troughton??!! Just for the...

Re: Most depressing theme tune ever for a comedy show?

I always found the theme to “Whatever Happened to The Likely Lads” quite maudlin. Whereas I've always thought it was wonderfully emotive and reflective. Terry comes out of the army and his mate's moved on. The song gets to that feeling of 'the good times are in the past'. Always have to listen to i...

Re: SERIES 12 SPOILERS

Is that guy in the video for real?. He's just a kid, he hasn't developed a critical faculty yet. Mind you, he could also be the kind of Nu-Who fan who thinks everything's amazing. I was like that myself once...to an insufferable degree. I was like that once, and a leading member of 'it's all one bi...

Re: THAT MCGANN TARDIS: Your View

I think we all prefer the white room with roundels. The rotor has to rise and fall too. The first Matt Smith one was hidden inside something, and the Smith/Capaldi one had a ceiling rose that spun around instead. Rubbish. Got on my nerves every time I saw it. The Season 14 console was pretty poor wi...

Yeah you seem to be right there. I saw that photo ages ago so I did get the same feeling. But you're talking to someone who didn't even like RTD's red Dalek Supreme! I hate any watering down of the proper design beyond the little tweeks they were given in 2005. But for a one off I'm a bit cooler wit...

Industry Professional on the end of End Credits

Anyone else HATE it when the tv channels miniaturise of skip end credits on your favourite series or film? I KNOW most on here do. Film and tv composer Daniel Pemberton speaks for all of us who like to watch the end credits, usually because we 'serious' tv viewers have more of an interest in who doe...

Is that guy in the video for real? SLEEK?? I thought he was going to give it a well earned kicking. It looks absolutely pathetic. We are back in the same boat as the fatleks from Victory. Re: SERIES 12 SPOILERS

There are two icons of Doctor Who, recognisable everywhere by people who've never seen the series. Lose them and it's lost it's identity and only a fool would allow it.

The Dalek and the Police Box. The latter specifically says 'Doctor' no matter 'who' plays the part.
