Re: Doctor Who TV Movie to be released on Blu-ray?

I *finally* watched this BluRay of the TV Movie. The picture quality really is rather dismal compared to what it might have been. The Restoration Team article explains in some detail about technical reasons why it looks like it does (basically: made in the America ) http://www.impossiblethings.net/r...

Re: Doctor Who - The Collection - Season 26

one point I'd make (which I guess isn't directly related to the bluray), but I'm reading Mark Platt's novelisation of Battlefield and it's considerably better than the real thing!

What about the ethnicity of the animator? What if white people are drawing the cartoons? Are male animators allowed to draw cartoons of women? :cow:

Re: The Complete Collection Future Releases

I've seen some examples of upscaling - Josh Snares has done some, and even telesnaps can be greatly improved. But all they have to do is animated TWO EPISODES to complete a black and white season. If only! I know I'm dreaming... Which is particularly ahine when you realise that they spent time and ...

Re: The Complete Collection Future Releases

well, you can certainly scan a photograph in "HD" (and indeed they almost certainly would do - bear in mind most photos you would see online these days have more pixels in than an "HD" video), but what you need to remember is that they'll still be photos of a 405-line television ...

Re: Doctor Who The Collection - S14

But yes, the sfx are actually extremely ropey in some. I think the team decided to write sfx off and concentrate on the plots and characters which are excellent to be fair. But I do cringe when I see that sh*t nowhere place at the start of Masque. And you, TN, never mentioned the sparkler that was ...

Re: Doctor Who The Collection - S14

I watched Masque of Mandragora Episode 1 tonight. Some nice scenes and acting, although also some pretty cheap and dodgy special FX. The picture quality of the material filmed on location at Portmeiron looks bloody awful - the Restoration Team article (http://www.impossiblethings.net/restorationteam...

Re: Doctor Who - The Collection - Season 23

Unfortunately episode one is the highlight of the extended versions. I also enjoyed it, but none of the others offered much. Well that's my view, be interested to see how you find them Yeah, I fear you are correct... tonight I reached Episode 9 (ie the last Mindwarp episode). To be honest, I strugg...

Re: Doctor Who - The Collection - Season 26

I've been watching the 'extended workprints' of Ghost Light. Whilst I think these have a lot of merit (as all the cut dialogue greatly assists the story at MAKING SENSE, and the cuts all appear to have been made for time rather than any performance issues), the picture quality is BLOODY TERRIBLE - a...

Re: Doctor Who - The Collection - Season 26

I watched the 'Special Edition' of Battlefield last night - the picture quality is no great shakes, the acting is largely terrible (certainly from McCoy and Aldred as usual), Keff McCullough should be killed (and not humanely, but torn limb from limb, tooth by tooth, until all that's left is his nos...

Re: Doctor Who - The Collection - Season 26

Firstly, I'd like to thank 'teleportNOW!' for his detailed reply to my earlier question, most informative. Now hair in the gate or not, The Two Doctors should be of decent quality to warrant a purchase when it's available? Sorry, only just reading this now - and I have to deliver bad news: although...

Re: Doctor Who - The Collection - Season 23

Finally watched episode 1 of the 'new edits' or whatever they're called, on Disc 5 of this set. I am always very wary of fanboys just editing back in all the stuff that was cut out of an episode by the editor/director - very often these things are cut for a reason (pace, tightness, being crap, etc e...

Re: Doctor Who - The Collection - Season 23

I watched the new hour long Bonnie Langford interview on Disc Four, which I thought was high quality, and had some interesting points to make, and also manages to be fairly positive and affirming without being sycophantic. Matthew Sweet is a good interviewer, unlike Toby Haddock whose interviews are...

Re: Faceless Ones animation DVD/Bluray up on Zoom

Doesn't matter, dvd only requires a 2k transfer and Blu-ray is 4k, plus technology has moved on generally. What they did 20 years ago doesn't matter. The new transfers would still need to be vidfired Now steady on - DVD is 760p, BluRay is 1080p (2K) and UHD is 4k (2600p). Scanning a grotty print of...
