Re: The Target Reprints.

I do note, on examining these new Kindle editions, that they're clearly the product of just OCR'ing the paperbacks - the front covers are just someone having stuck the paperback on a scanner, and the text it an exact grab of the papeback edition (with even the whole blurb like the prices in UK, USA,...

Re: The Target Reprints.

Dredging up this thread again - this morning I discovered two Target paperbacks that I own were now available on Kindle, but hadn't been through the whole über-fan cottage industry rigmarole of a new print edition with new politically correct fanwank intros etc (like the ones above on this thread): ...

Re: Faceless Ones animation DVD/Bluray up on Zoom

It wouldn't be particularly jarring in this case, though, because if you look at the stock footage (presented on Disc 3), it's clearly still just grubby prints - so it is not gonna suddenly mean a scene of pristine HD. It would just have more-or-less brought it up to being no worse than the surround...

Re: Faceless Ones animation DVD/Bluray up on Zoom

Frustrating if that's the case. Peter Crocker usually answers tech queries about this sort of thing on Twitter if you ask. I do tend to find that replacing telecined stock footage (in this case, a print of tele-recorded telecined stock footage!) with the original films makes one of the greatest impr...

Re: Faceless Ones animation DVD/Bluray up on Zoom

Oh hell - I've just realised another rather perverse thing about these episodes: although they had found the stock footage used in them of planes, and included it (in colour!) on the BluRay, they haven't re-edited it back into the extant episodes!? Which just have the original telecine transfer?! wh...

Re: Faceless Ones animation DVD/Bluray up on Zoom

Well, I have watched the legit version (original eps, with b&w 4:3 animation for the four missing episodes). It was quite watchable and told the story OK, although I agree that the 4:3 animation has been half-assessedly cropped that way - no 'pan and scan' here. Probably for 'Fury from the Deep'...

Re: Doctor Who - The Collection - Season 23

Hah, yeah, the Vervoids really weren't at their best when talking to camera  I've been watching the 'Special Edition' of Terror of the Vervoids, and whilsts it's not as ghastly as the one for Enlightenment (in at least they kept the 4:3 video aspect ration, and did the new CGI exteriors the sam...

Re: Doctor Who - The Collection - Season 23

Ironically I kinda marginally prefer Terror of the Vervoids as a story and performance to the other episodes! I meant, that's certainly damning with faint praise, but it less stand-out bad performances (Brian Blessed, Joan Sims...) and I think the Vervoids are better as a monster than the bloody Jat...

Re: Doctor Who - The Collection - Season 23

I watched episode 14 today and my god is it awful. Everyone has swallowed a dictionary, Langford is 110% panto, the plot makes zero sense, the digital visual effects are naff af, arrrrgh

Re: Doctor Who - The Collection - Season 23

One minorly interesting bit from the 'Behind the Sofa' feature on Terror of the Vervoids - Mark Strickson gets confused and thinks that Professor Laskey's unfortunate mutant lab assistant in the isolation room is Peri - I actually was confused about that at the time too! (Probably cos they were both...

Re: Dr. Who - Fury from the Deep Animation

Hope so. We may get a third toward the end of the year if it is. Marco Polo - for the Season 1 bluray boxset 8-) f*ck that, go for the Crusades :D Given that they already literally wasted money animating two episodes of the Faceless Ones that weren't missing, it's rather galling that the Crusades h...

Re: The Complete Collection Future Releases

Perhaps we will see some of these of the Seasons 1-6 boxsets? https://kieranh1963.wixsite.com/whospheres/60s-hd-elements Brilliant page! Some of these materials already have been used on the DVDs to great effect, so will be all the better on BluRay (much as has already been done with the Quatermass...

Re: Faceless Ones animation DVD/Bluray up on Zoom

Mine has arrived today whilst I'm at work.

I've only just realised that they've spent money animated two episodes that actually still exist?!?! What the actual..?!?

Could they not have spent the money animating two missing episodes instead? :o

Re: Doctor Who - The Collection - Season 23

I watched ep.1 of the broadcast story last night, and the most wrenching thing continues to be Bonnie Langford's panto acting.

I also find it hard not to giggle at the end when there's about a 30 second explosion / electrocution / 5.1 surround-sound scream

Re: The Complete Collection Future Releases

I can't think of a single area of Doctor Who merchandise that's ever been released in order. Not the Target books, not the videos, not the DVDs, not the audio books. So why would they start releasing limited box sets in order that aren't complete in the first place? look that doesn't make it ...

Re: The Complete Collection Future Releases

Why release part seasons when you can release whole ones? :? Don't see the harm saving the first six till last. Well Season 1 would be 'complete' if they animated Marco Polo (and it's got more episodes in it that in three whole McCoy seasons, or something) - ...and there is that small thing of NARR...

Re: Upscaling DVDs

Honestly, you can buy a perfectly decent BluRay player for not more than the price of a couple of BluRay discs, so I would never see much reason not to get one :) 'UHD' 4K players are a bit more pricey - although frankly there aren't many 4K discs on the market to buy to watch on them! I experimente...

God, they really hate Hartnell, don't they?
Season 1 is begging for a bluray!

(Although I suppose someone will now claim that Marco Polo is racist towards Italians, etc etc...)

I just spent an hour and a half of my life watching Joan Sims fluff her lines on the 'Studio and Location footage' bonus feature on Disc 1.
Not something I'll be watching again!
