Re: Myths & Legends DVD

Anyways, I watched "Underworld" for the first time. Like many Baker & Martin stories, I found the tale a bit "meh", and not hugely exciting or engaging. Some nice Tom & Leela moments though, and the ambition behind the all-CSO tunnels is staggering! They very nearly pull ...

Have the Restoration Team given up DVD articles...?

Have the Restoration Team given up posting articles about the Dr Who DVDs on their site...? (I'm banned from most other sites where they post, so I wouldn't know if they've said so...) There's none for Time Monster/Underworld/Nimon, nor for Enlightenment. If so it's a shame, cos it was always fascin...

Re: 2010 - The year of naff stories released on DVD

You're talking about a huge body of material that's several decades old. Releasing the sixties stuff in transmission order would be pointless since once you get past 1964 you've got huge gaps between existing stories anyway so it still wouldn't make much sense, and people who weren't interested in ...

Re: 2010 - The year of naff stories released on DVD

I'm afraid my broken record is still stuck on the turntable - having finished The Time Monster, I now realise it was also meant to be a "season cliffhanger", which is why the possible cliffhanger death of Mike Yates coulda been more plausible, and why the struggle between the Doctor & ...

Re: Myths & Legends DVD

... however the resolution of the cliffhanger when the Doctor was stuck in the vortex, simply by pressing the "extreme emergency" lever, was lame. Well which lever would you press? lol If the master knew TARDIS's had a lever which would sort out the dilemma, what was the point of him expe...

Re: Myths & Legends DVD

Well, finally finished The Time Monster - episode 4 rather sucked, in my opinion - lots of wooden scenes with Ian Levine trying to be Sergeant Benton, and despite some interesting Castrovalvan concepts vis-a-vis Tardises, the 1972 plastic roundels were ridiculous. Episode 5 was another thing altoget...

Re: Rate "The Eleventh Hour".

chap with wings texted me yesterday and I got the impression he hadn't tuned in to watch it? Just in case it's good :D No, because right from the second I saw Smith, I knew he was wrong on an instinctive level (Mikey seems to understand) and I stated at that point I would not watch any New Who with...

Re: Myths & Legends DVD

well - Time Monster episode 3 - lol I can see why many people today would regard the manifestation of Kronos as utterly risible - some bloke in a white pigeon costume cavorting on a wire whilst the did their best to distract the viewer with quick cuts, soft focus and the Radiophonic Workshop's squal...

Re: Rate "The Eleventh Hour".

The worst console room (in my opinion) was in the Troughton years were it appeared to consist merely of some photographic blow-ups of roundels! However since the BBC threw most of those episodes into a skip, set fire to them, and then buried the ashes in landfill, so we're spared seeing too much of ...

Re: Rate "The Eleventh Hour".

Well, to be fair, going by 'The Rescue', I think we can say there's every precedent for Hartnell turning up somewhere, feeling a bit lonely, and persuading a young girl to come travelling with him! Agreed, the original premise that he can't control where the TARDIS will land has gone out the window,...

Re: Rate "The Eleventh Hour".

yeah, I thought the "magic laptop" was very RTD-esque, a sort of whirl of steaming bullsh*t  But it didn't last long, and at least we got a cameo from Patrick Moore.

Re: Which is worse?

I'm amused at the irony of the complaints... this is essentially a CBBC-fied relaunch of Doctor Who, it's the epitomy of demograghic television made to order for the desired slot and audience and that the theme tune is altered accordingly to fit that mandate is a given. I'm fine with it, i've heard...

Re: Murray Gold stays on for 2010

Yes, I remember him saying something along those lines too. And it does pretty much seem to sum up his approach. But if my memory isn't cheating (*ducks*) he was talking about hearing the the Delia Derbyshire theme tune alongside the new opening titles and, if that's the case, he does have a point....

Re: Rate "The Eleventh Hour".

yep - when Ecclestone tried to do "goofy" acting, he was at his least convincing, I felt,
and Tennant was definately forcing the mania at times.
Matt Smith, however, does appear come across as a bit of a wierdo quite naturally, lol bless him

Re: Rate "The Eleventh Hour".

Oh one other thing I forgot to mention -
at one point, the sonic screwdriver got zonked.
I was REALLY hoping this was Moffat wisely getting rid of an overused "magic wand"...
...but by the end, the Tardis had made a new one. Bah. :|

Re: Which is worse?

there seems to be something of a consensus that Murray Gold has really Gone Too Far this time.

I'm half minded to start a Facebook group called "The Latest Version of Dr Who Theme Tune is AWFUL!"

Re: Rate "The Eleventh Hour".

I believe the nanogenes were a "battlefield medicine" for use between warring species, it was just Captain Jack's stupidity that unleashed it on earth (a stupidity which he continued to display in pretty much every episode of Torchwood, lol) I'd let most of the other criticisms stand, yeah...

lol the other thing is - when the "next week" bit comes on at the end, I stick my fingers in my ears, close my eyes and go "la la la" whilst my bf holds up a cushion in front of my face...
...but somebody mentioned daleks above lol Bah! so hard to escape bloody spoilers! :)
