Re: Dr Who - The Macra Terror Animation (Merged Threads)

Kim Newman is a fairly charismatic enthusiast for all this kind of vintage sci fi and horror stuff, so he makes a good talking head for documentaries etc. I usually fairly enjoy hearing his opinions on this kind of thing, and they're usually not too idiosyncratic. At least they haven't got that butc...

Re: Rate "Can You Hear Me?"

Here's the BBC's official response to the complaints regarding Doctor and Graham (credit to doctorwho of GB) Thank you for contacting us about Doctor Who: Can you Hear Me? with your feedback that it was insensitive for the Doctor to dismiss Graham’s cancer concerns. We never set out to upset our vi...

Re: Rate "Can You Hear Me?"

I am just watching as a completionist in the hope that I could be entertained, (one day eh?). That last sentence is so me. This is pretty much exactly why I'm still watching it. Very begrudingly as a completist. The last couple of episodes, I even didn't tune in on broadcast cos I was watching some...

Re: Rate "Can You Hear Me?"

The Doctor may know Graham is a fixed point in time and whatever happens to him, has to happen. Maybe the Doctor already healed him and is waiting to Xmas to tell him. I just don't know if someone can write it that harsh without a reason.O It's part of some 'diversity quota' - someone has decided t...

Re: Rate "Can You Hear Me?"

Finally got around to watching this one on iPlayer. (Missed it on transmission as I watching some decent instead on BluRay ;) ) The first bit of the episode was a frenetic mess, occasionally with some nice design elements (Aleppo looked pretty good, I'll grant you) but at several points it struck me...

Re: Dr. Who - Fury from the Deep Animation

We must keep the Kaled race pure! :alien: This was the bit regarding the increase in representation in the Fury animation (it’s apparently not a joke). As you can see it’s not quite as you would think. Effort is being made to improve representation in the animations. Price in Fury from the Deep is m...

Re: Rate "Praxeus"

The Doctor's claim that the antidote virus wouldn't work on 'Suki' because she was an alien with different physiology to a human was rendered a little silly by the fact that she was a human actor playing a character who looked and sounded and acted completely human.

Re: Rate "Praxeus"

Finally watched this 2 weeks late on iPlayer. Sledgehammer environmental message (all the dumber for beginning with a eulogy to the '7 billion humans' living on the planet... er, maybe that's the problem, duh?), horrendously clunky dialogue at times (like a bad cartoon), idiot actions by the charact...

Re: Faceless Ones animation DVD/Bluray up on Zoom

Pleased if they've tracked down some stock footage that was in it - this is something that they don't try hard enough to do in general, if you ask me! In many episodes it could offer immense picture quality improvements if they found the original film from the library. I find their excuses as to why...

Re: Doctor Who - The Collection - Season 23

They're a vanity project by überfans, for überfans. As usual, the budget is arbitrarily divvy-ed up in ways that means some of the really worthwhile quality improvements that could be done (which is the ostensible justification for these releases) don't even get done, because instead its used to mak...

Re: Doctor Who - The Collection - Season 26

This is disappointing to hear. I was hoping for some improvement with GL in particular. Well it will still look slightly better than the DVD... :D But yeah, basically still awful. As far as I am aware, the original raw unedited video tapes of Ghostlight don't exist, so they're stuck with the transm...

Re: Doctor Who - The Collection - Season 26

Please tell me that season 25 wasn't recorded in this fashion? , I won't be buying it ( when it's released) even though I love Silver Nemesis and Remembrance Of The Daleks, I'm not wasting my money? Regards HGL Yes it was, I believe. Basically when JNT took them on that jolly to Spain to film 'The ...

Re: Doctor Who - The Collection - Season 26

I watched Ghost Light last night, the picture quality is shocking, too soft and motion blur on some images especially noticeable on episode 1. Dropped in Battlefield VHS extended version , just to see if there was any picture improvement, no chance!!. I know this was shot on video but so was Davids...

Re: Doctor Who - The Collection - Season 26

Ghost Light is looking good too. I've had a play around with my TV presets but I still can't get perfection on Fenric and Survival. I think it's due to the OB cameras they used in bright light. There's strobing. Enjoyable stuff though. "Anyone fancy a curry?" I haven't watched any of mine...

Quite possibly because they are deeply egregious lemons?

I mean what sane mortal could listen to the present theme tune and think it's an improvement on the original?!

Re: Rate "Fugitive of the Judoon"

Except its been ignored from Canon for ages. People have been arguing this to be both canon/not canon for ages. You can look up the many...many discussions about this. So no it's not cut and dry at all. The Doctor got his name in his Hartnell Incarnation. The Tardis which on Galifrey looked more li...

A good point, well made :alien: - we know it only got stuck like that when it landed in Totter's Lane.
