Lovejoy (1986)

"Shaken, not stirred", "We're the Sweeney, son - and we haven't had any dinner" and all that jazz.

Lovejoy is an irresistible rogue with a keen eye for antiques. The part-time detective scours the murky salerooms, auction halls and stately homes of Britain, always on the lookout for a find.

Thanks to donations from members I've been able to move Planet Mondas to a faster server. But I'm still working on further improvements. Ad Revenue covers the server fees, but not my time, so if you like you can buy me a coffee, which will help fuel me! Thanks in advance! Mat Sadler (matjkd)

McShane’s “Lovejoy” Gets A Modern Remake

http://www.darkhorizons.com/mcshanes-lovejoy-gets-a-modern-remake/

Long before he was Al Swearengen, back in his roguish early 40s with a hell of a head of hair for a man of his age, Ian McShane broke through on UK television in the late 1980s as the lead in the classic comedy-drama mystery series “Lovejoy”.

The series followed a likeable but less than scrupulous East Anglian antique dealer with a reputation for having almost unnatural powers of recognising exceptional items as well as distinguishing genuine antiques from forgeries.

The original series ran for 71 episodes over six seasons on BBC One between 1986-1994 and was famed for its style, pacing, and frequency of breaking the fourth wall which wasn’t really done at the time.

Now, Blue Sky Pictures and its head Nick Witkowski have acquired the rights to the original Jonathan Gash novels upon which the show was based with plans to update it for the 21st century.

McShane a few years back said he wasn’t averse to a remake but thinks they should instead go for a sequel series in which he cameos:

“If you’re gonna do it, why don’t you do a show…[where] in walks this 37-year-old, gorgeous redhead. And it’s not McShane having been transgendered, you know, it’s an actual, live daughter. Much more interesting than having me come back.”

Three previous attempts at remakes took place in the early 2000s, 2007 and 2015 with none of them getting past the development stage.
