"Bradley Walsh IS The Doctor": Could It Have Worked?

Academic now, of course....

But it's a notion that's brought up quite a lot, so maybe there's something to it?

Would Bradley Walsh have been a good choice for the role of the Doctor?

What qualities could he have brought to the role?

Or is he just not suited to the part?

Thanks to donations from members I've been able to move Planet Mondas to a faster server. But I'm still working on further improvements. Ad Revenue covers the server fees, but not my time, so if you like you can buy me a coffee, which will help fuel me! Thanks in advance! Mat Sadler (matjkd)

Thinking on it, technically there's a loophole where Bradley could become a future Doctor!

No one would have worked for me with Chibbers in the driving seat. Jodie's performance might be lacklustre (haven't seen this any of this series yet, so she might have improved for all I know), but I've had issues with NuWho from the start, and last series, which I had hoped might improve on the Capaldi era, managed to be even worse. That was not all down to Jodie's performance, there are most definitely problems behind the camera.

I think Bradley could have worked, but he's too damn well known in the UK for it to have really worked, no matter how good he is as an actor. I agree that although I don't care for Jodie's portrayal, it's not *all* her I now feel.

Stuff Bradley Walsh, lets have one of the Chasers as the Doctor. They couldn’t be any worse an actor than Jon Pertwee.

Shaun Wallace is the Doctor!

You know it makes sense.

I feel they'd make worthy opponents for Bradley's Doctor.

Surely companions or friends, or whatever they call them now.

YMMV, but I can definitely see them as villains.

With Bradley as the slightly wild, amusing and charasmatic central figure of the Doctor, would his three companions: Mandip Gill, Jodie Whittaker and Tosin Cole have made for a fun on-screen team, with great natural chemistry?

If I hadn't saw his guest turn in the Sarah Jane Adventures then I would have voted "No".
Suppose coming after Capaldi would seem another older Doctor. But what about Bradley Walsh, not Graham but Bradley Walsh as The Doctor appearing in all Peter Capaldi's episodes and Peter Capaldi appearing alongside Jodie Whittaker playing Graham?
I suppose we should just be glad Michael Barrymore was never considered for a role in Doctor Who during the classic era!

On reflection, judging by the off-screen chemistry of the group - I actually think Jodie would perhaps have made for a likeable companion to Bradley's likeable Doctor - and perhaps Tosin and Mandip's performances would have gone up a few notches too?

(That would still be too many companions in a crowded TARDIS/45 minute format though.)

Just such a pity the way it all played out. :(

In a way I'm kinda glad they didn't. If they had, I might be still being conned into watching this sh*te and suffering for it. At least when they cast Pisstaker it was a pretty clear message this wasn't aimed at me anymore.
(Doctor Who) has been hijacked and redefined as a lucrative modern franchise. They've literally taken a square peg and painfully made it fit a round hole by taking enormous liberties with much of its fundamental essence. There's no turning back now.

Let’s be honest, jokes aside, Bradley Walsh wouldn’t have been any better because the whole series is run by Chris Chibnall. Jodie Whittaker is not the main problem.

You’re kidding yourself if you think it would be any different with another actor.

Chibs might have written the Doctor differently for someone else (e.g. not as Bubble). But even then, it wouldn't have been "brilliant!" - well, not unless he got a talent transplant.

Yes, but he’d get Bradley to channel some other Doctor so we’d still end up with a pale imitation.

The showrunner runs the show and if it fails then there is no one else to blame.

I often wonder how Jodie would have been perceived with a decent showrunner and half decent scripts.

Chibs only got the showrunner role because he wanted to cast a female Doctor.

I imagine it would've worked if someone like Mark Gatiss had been showrunner instead, but that would've opened up a different can of worms.
The Doctor died with Capaldi. The rest is non-canon.
