Michael Gambon would be a great choice.

Apparently The New Doctor will be revealed to us all after the men's Tennis tomorrow afternoon on the BBC! Now as I don't watch Tennis I'll have to wait for the news of the unveiling to reach me somewhere else...

Wouldn't it be ironic, then, if the next Doctor is a lady.. ? :D

And there's me thinking the next Doctor and producer might be working towards restoring our faith in the programme!

I'm in the middle of the introductory episode with Kris Marshall for DiP - and I'm getting a Tom Baker vibe. That might work in contrast to Capaldi's Doctor.

Says the man who gave us classics like,
"The Shakespeare Code" (2007)
"The Unicorn and the Wasp" (2008)
"Planet of the Dead" (Co-written with Russell T Davies) (2009)
"The Lodger" (2010)
"Closing Time" (2011)
"The Caretaker" (Co-written with Steven Moffat) (2014)

Just a theory (and one that may well turn out to be wrong of course) but given the nature of this impending announcement I suspect the new Doctor will be a bloke.

Why? Because if it really was a woman the Beeb would surely mount a whole 'reveal' show to both herald and hype such an historic change - similar to what they gave Capaldi (though obviously for different reasons).

By contrast this announcement's been merely bunged on the end of Men's Wimbledon final....which may well overrun delaying proceedings anyway. Class.

P.S. On a related note, if I'm wrong and it's actually the recently mooted Jodie Whittaker instead brace yourselves for a torrent of blurry screen-grabs accompanied by trite captions such as 'Just what the Doctor ordered!', 'Doctor Phwoah!' and 'We think Jodie's got some front taking on Doctor Who!' et al in the tabloids as Ms Whittaker has previously 'whipped the goods out' in a very good film starring the late Peter 'O Toole! Safest (if hypothetical) bet I ever made. ;)

He would be a great Doctor but i think they will go for a younger actor.
I wouldn't mind if Kris Marshall got the part i know some people are not to keen on him but i think he would bring something to the role.

Jodie Whitaker's odds have been slashed according to oddschecker. She is 2/5 and Marshall Scott are 7/2.

That's exactly what I thought about him. :o
The Doctor died with Capaldi. The Chibnall era is non-canon.

There are no Doctors before William Hartnell.

Without respect, we reject.
