THE NEW DOCTOR TAKES OVER TWITTER

The BBC have announced that during the build up to the big reveal on Sunday evening and during the annoucement itself Doctor Who dominated the twittersphere.

The live announcement of Peter Capaldi’s casting triggered a response of 542,000 tweets from fans – at one point reaching 22,081 tweets a minute – making it the highest TV tweet minute peak recorded so far this year.

Doctor Who Live: The Next Doctor averaged over 9000 tweets per minute and one tweet alone from the official twitter account – @bbcdoctorwho – tweeting the first official photograph of the new Doctor was promptly re-tweeted 25,000 times.

Yesterday the official twitter posted a tweet thanking everyone for joining in and making it such a memorable weekend. They echoed what Peter Capaldi said during the live show: “Doctor Who belongs to all of us” and thanked everyone for showing that this remains truer than ever. The hash tag they used was:#DoctorWhoFansRock.
