Re: Rate "Genesis of the Daleks"

The original Chronicles strip was written by David Whitaker no less, so I hold it as canon. Davros could have been one of the genetic engineering team (the race was Dals originally, not Kaleds). When the Doctor and the Thals first defeated them, there could have been some Daleks deep in the city som...

Re: TV21

I collected it every week and lapped up the Dalek strip on the back (I do have a copy of the 'Chronicles' book but it's *very* well read by myself and my son).. I'd wait on the stairs while the paper boy stood outside reading it before posting it through the letter box.

Re: FACING THE CONTROVERSY: At the End of the Day, Is the Doctor Fundamentally a Male Character?

Having been a regular watcher since the first Dalek story, I can't say I ever found the Doctor a 'role model' as such, but i suppose I could say that in a scary situation (some things could be scary in the 60's when I was primary school age), the Doctor was a kind of comforting influence (sorry, I c...

Re: Who is the Best New Who Master?

Question, Sir Derek aside (who probably needs little direction as such), do the others portray the character the way they do because they were *directed* to act that way? Simm in an interview I remember reading seemed to conform he acted as directed at least first time round and I thought he was muc...

Re: PREDICTING THE END: Will Whittaker & Chibs Leave in Their Own Time - Or Get the Push?

Unless there's a surprise with them leaving after this forthcoming Dalek extravaganza, i suspect they may fizzle along with a shortened season as and when it can be safely filmed and then I suspect it'll be quietly rested, as the powers that be can't be deaf to all our vociferous complaints. I suspe...

I said Mechanus, but would like New York in 1965 too as it was kind of happening there as well. I was regularly visiting family in London back then and 'did the sights' not long after, so no bother with that one.

Re: Should the BBC Simply Retcon the Entire Whittaker/Chibs Era?

I don't know why some people don't like the idea of the Doctor regenerating into a female body, and changing gender identity with it, and yet have no problem with the Master doing the same. I have the same problem with Missy as I do with Jodie Whittaker. Her Master does not work and the character i...

Re: What Made You Fall in Love With Classic DOCTOR WHO?

THE DALEKS!!! I thought it was the December 28th episode, but it wasn't. It was The Escape shown early January 1964 (4th?). Hooked me good and proper and even the latest catastrophy/car crash of a show can't totally shake me off... 'Course I'll watch the bloody Christmas/New Year episode coming up '...

Re: JODIE DIDN'T WATCH/RESEARCH CLASSIC WHO: Does It Matter?

I appreciate a new actor not wanting to be overly influenced by what's gone before, but this is The Doctor we're talking about and OF COURSE there should be certain traits continuing through the line if only hinted at at times. To me, she got it totally wrong and totally missed it!

Re: Rewatch Doctor Who: The War Games

It goes on a bit but watching it over the years has increased my enjoyment. Maybe the War Chief was a kind of template for the Master, but best not look too hard? As for how society thought back then (picking up on earlier comments), I'm dumbfounded that the supposedly freer thinking Hippy generatio...

Re: Do You Consider McGann's Doctor to be Canon?

I know some of you don't take Big Finish as canon, but Paul McG has done some amazing work for them and I wish so much he'd have been given more on TV! I also think his audition tape was a masterpiece too and utterly compelling as the Doctor.

He IS The Doctor, unlike the current female imposters!!!

Re: THE STRANGER (1964): "Australia's answer to Doctor Who"

How terribly sad to hear of Ron's passing, yet I remain so glad that I can re-watch this series once again - and I have, several times now. i do hope we can return to fairly simple story telling again, with effects kept more discrete and with good actors playing solidly written characters. You never...
