Re: So About Those Missing Episodes Then...

I can’t watch it. They need to change narrator as the one they’re using at the moment is beyond annoying. I'm afraid that "vocal fry" got to me after about 30 seconds. A posh accent would be irritating but bearable, but a pseudo-posh one sounds just so smug and condescending... Which is a shame bec...

Re: Rate "The Ghost Monument"

Well, we could have done a lot worse than a straight-up straightforward "We have to get from Point A to Point B because of the MaGuffin" story in the Classic Who mould. I appreciate that Chibnall didn't make the story more complicated than it needed to be (unlike the Moff). Yeah, sometimes a cigar i...

Re: Rate “The Woman Who Fell to Earth”

So it seems daft to me that RTD and Moff and CC feel they must have a female lead, or at least a Mary Sue in every episode, but it also seems to be a fact. So I feel that this is the logical conclusion, merging the Mary Sue into the main character. Hence, maybe paradoxically, my gut feeling is that...

Re: Rate “The Woman Who Fell to Earth”

I wish people would stop referring to Bradley Walsh as just a game show host - he's got several acting credits to his name (e.g. Law and Order UK) and, whatever you may think of his acting, he is not just a game show host! The same things were said about Pertwee previously being a comedic actor, T ...

Re: Rate “The Woman Who Fell to Earth”

To be honest, I think it was on par with ROSE as both an introduction and a re-introduction to the series. I think it's significant that it had neither the opening theme nor the TARDIS and it still came off as well as it did. The only really odd misstep was the 'Look at all of the diverse diversity ...

Re: Rate “The Woman Who Fell to Earth”

It just occrred to me that the sacrifical Nan character was a bit of a paradigm shift. Normally these Doctor and series opener episodes at least have the regular fanbase behind them but this episode needed to convince both new and old fans that it was still the same show. So elderly white male Graha...

Re: Rate “The Woman Who Fell to Earth”

According to Twitter, it's hideous to assume that little boys shouldn't treat female role models any differently. Look what happened to poor old Peter Davison. Girls should have female role models though. Boys should celebrate diversity. Go figure. After hundreds of years of double standards for wo...

Re: Rate “The Woman Who Fell to Earth”

Easy to follow, dialogue hmmm in bits, acting was okay, storyline felt similar to Predator, wee bit of Quatermas and the Pit (movie version) thrown in with the cranes, no cuts or bruises after falling through carriage - strange - and although science fiction it really didn't feel like Doctor Who at...

Re: Rate “The Woman Who Fell to Earth”

7 for me. It wasn't terrible but it wasn't fantastic either. It's an introductory story so I'm cutting it a little bit of slack. This episode had to accomplish a number of things including getting viewers over the gender hump so I think that writing the perfect opening episode was a nearly impossibl...

Re: Rate “The Woman Who Fell to Earth”

The not wore women's clothing for a while line was either a joke or it grates with 13 previous doctors incarnations. I can't imagine tom baker crossdressing. Half joke, half truth -- and given Chibnal's a continuity geek like the Moff he's probably referencing Pertwee disguising himself as the clea...

Re: Comparing the animation on previous releases

I suspect the animated episodes of The Moonbase are more exciting visually than the original episodes! Sure. I mean I doubt the Cybermen had boners in the original  Say WHAT? . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . https://image.ibb.co/gCDj18/2018_07_30_4.png Ohhhhhhhhh! (Damnit, now I...

Re: Comparing the animation on previous releases

It was much smoother than Power. It looked much better as well. The problem with the animated Shada, at least for me, was the fact it was movie length. I am a traditionalist, so I would have prefered there being an option to watch it in an episodic format. That was my only grievance. Loved the scen...

Re: The 2018 Omnirumour Poll - PMF Grumpcast IV

I hovered between 20-50 and 50-90 because the known facts and the behavior of some people seems to fit both of these possibilities. I ended up playing it realisipessimistic and choosing 20-50. Here's why I think we are hovering around the 50 mark: I think after a few false starts they found stuff in...

Well, the podcast has been hammered - it's way exceeded our expectations, so I've moved it to a better site with unlimited bandwidth and better audio. Who knew? Re: Xmas Special 2017: Twice upon a Time

Sometimes, we as fans like to see things that were never there in the first place. Case in point: In THE TIME MONSTER when the Doctor is ejected into the vortex by Kronos the TARDIS homes in on the Doctor's thoughts. Jo can hear a number of voices, including the 3rd Doctor's who later explains that ...

Re: Shada Animated (2017)

Douglas weirdly at one point tried to make SHADA "unfilmable" so the production team would have to pick a script for another story that Adams wanted to make -- presumably he added all sorts of things that would put the costs of SHADA through the roof to make it unpalatable for production. Graham Wil...

Re: Shada Animated (2017)

I see Clayton Hickman's tweeted up his rejected design for the slipcase then. 933753841186721792 Not too keen on it if I'm honest. So his 'brilliant' unused package design idea was a closeup of a scarf? That's what he was making all that twitter noise about? All of this BS about 'preserving artisti...

Re: Shada 4th December

Far more likely on the SHADA DVD is an animated Big Finish story starring Tom and Lalla -- re-using those animation models for Tom makes cost effective sense and gives the BF content some more publicity. New Douglas Adams realated material or interviews is another likely prospect. Another thought is...
