Re: What's The Last TV Show You Watched?

PINE GAP Drama about the people who work at the eponymous Five Eyes listening station, supposedly just outside Alice Springs. Full of (relatively) ordinary seeming spooks, makes "Spooks" looks like James Bond by comparison. Still, the ordinariness makes it all seems quite believable, so far there h...

Been watching The Cleopatras, that old TV series which had its fair share of knockers at the time.

Re: What's The Last TV Show You Watched?

Nice one LizR, check out Pertwee, my god it's just Jon all over again. Yes it is! Shame it doesn't look like he'll be in the rest of it (although I could be wrong). I can't remember the exact dialogue, but something like: You stabbed me in the back! That's rude! Yes, sorry about that, I was trying ...

Well, I know the tune... the words seem to be mainly the title, from memory.

Isn’t she from Huddersfield?
Skelmanthorpe, apparently, which is nearby. (Why, did the article say somewhere else?)

Re: Jodie's parents raised her ‘gender neutral'

For once a decent quote from JW, in my opinion.
She told Marie Claire in 2018: ‘I’m playing a Time Lord who’s essentially an alien and inhabits different bodies and this one is female.
That's kind of along my "built-in chameleon circuit" theory.

Re: What's The Last TV Show You Watched?

Gave a six part series a binge watch last night ,Sky one " Two weeks to Live" only 30 minute episodes, so easily watched. The wife and i really enjoyed it, a bit different from the usual TV fodder, funny, violent, with a couple of twists and turns. Recommended! Regards HGL We're watching it now. Fi...

Re: FACING THE CONTROVERSY: At the End of the Day, Is the Doctor Fundamentally a Male Character?

Hmm. Well, one can guess some fugures for comparing absurdities I suppose... The chances of 13 regenerations in a row coming up male (assuming each has a 50% chance) is one in 8192. The chances of the Moon being an egg that hatches into a bird which then lays another identical egg is one in ... a tr...

Jodie's parents raised her ‘gender neutral'

Doctor Who’s Jodie Whittaker reveals parents raised her ‘gender neutral before it was even considered a thing’ Interesting that she knows it "wasn't a thing" in the 1990s - actually it was with some people, such as some friends of mine, so I guess she's got that wrong (too). https://metro.co.uk/202...

Re: If you had a TARDIS where would you go?

If one had the power of time travel, who wouldn't be tempted to interfere... Hence Larry Niven's law of time travel... paraphrased as: "If it's possible for a time machine to be invented, it won't be." Because people will always be tempted to tinker with the past ... until they eventually make a ch...

Re: MARY WHITEHOUSE: Was She Sometimes Right?

I think the issue is more nuanced than a simple "showing sex and violence is wrong because the Bible says so" (actually it's full of it but let's not split hairs). Glorifying or normalising violence may well be wrong, in that it may desensitise the audience. Maybe...

I'd be happier if they didn't attack straw men (or women) but addressed some actual reasons people don't like having every hero change sex (unless it's a female hero in which case that isn't generally even considered).

Re: "NEVER MIND THE REST OF IT!": Individual Episodes That You Really, Really Like!

The Destruction of Time, the last episode of DMP. A brilliant ending to an an almost brilliant serial (the comedy episodes let it down a bit). Still my most wanted missing episodes ever. Totally agree. I think, for me, it's that Time Destructor gizmo clacking away in the background relentlessly - k...

Re: "I WAITED A WHOLE WEEK FOR... THAT?!?": Are Two-Parters Always Doomed to Disappoint - and Why?

One reason is resolutions that are too easy. I will think of some examples..... Well there are a few in the first season, actually (and later, but by then I wasn't expecting so much, so they had less of a disappointment factor). "Go to your room!" And rescuing rose from the Daleks by materialising t...
