Re: The 3 DALEK Movies vs. the 3 TV Versions: Which Are Best?

Hartnell all the way. I couldn't stand the way Ian's intelligence was significantly downgraded in the first movie. Cushing was a very good Doctor, but Hartnell was THE Doctor, the definite article. I also don't understand the intense dislike for The Chase. Yes, it's not the best serial ever by a lon...

Re: When The Doctor Was a Human Who Invented the TARDIS

Well, most of this is covered in the video that that person made. And the "constructed" only makes sense in context if the Doctor is referring to constructing the Tardis. What's also interesting is that the time meddler never refers to his ship as a "Tardis". He speaks of his "timeship". Because if ...

Re: When The Doctor Was a Human Who Invented the TARDIS

The example used in the video is from Episode 3 of The Chase:

IAN: What's this, Doctor?

DOCTOR: That's my Time Path Detector. It's been in the ship ever since I constructed it.]But do you know, I don't remember it registering before?

Re: "SHIPPING" the Doctor Who Characters: Yay or Nay?

If people want to produce their own fan fiction, and ship characters, then let 'em. But I don't want those people writing the show, or being showrunner, which is what we ended up getting. And how long until this.. https://64.media.tumblr.com/c475666c0891bbde2088e13ec2719a2f/tumblr_pgplb0RH1Z1r24q9ho...

The Bible was written during the Renaissance?

PDF of a book written by Edwin Johnson in 1894. Long out-of-print, but well worth the read. Johnson puts forward the theory that the Pauline Books(most of the New Testament) were written in the 16th century, by a variety of men. There are books dealing with the "Old Testament", but can't find a free...

Re: What's with all the McCoy hatred?

The McCoy Era seemed to just to just destroy everything that had gone before. But it didn't really have a way forward. They blew up Skaro, blew up the Cyberman fleet, and the Brigadier was supposed to die in Battlefield originally as well. The show didn't seem to have a way forward in 1966 or 1969,...

Maybe one the New Adventures authors can write a novel, explaining it for us?

Or Big Finish can do four sets of 4 x 60 minutes box sets?

Re: When The Doctor Was a Human Who Invented the TARDIS

Originally, Doctor Who was a human being who invented a time-space ship. That would be in the pilot episode, I assume. As in Susan's claim: "I was born in the 49th Century." Which implies on Earth, since the date would be meaningless elsewhere. In "An Unearthly Child", however, the Doctor's origins...

The McCoy Era seemed to just to just destroy everything that had gone before. But it didn't really have a way forward. Re: Hurndall or Bradley: Who's the Best Who?

To try and bend this back to relevancy, I'll ask this: What would you think of Mark Gatiss being made producer for a series of 60 or 75 minute specials, say one a year, each of which would feature a previous Doctor in a "new" adventure? This could be the mounting of an abandoned script, one of the ...

Re: Doctor Who: The Annual Years

But why should the content of the annuals be " mutations haunting the wilderness between the domed, protected cities of Canonicity."? it's only from a modern perspective that that could be the case. The 60's annual stories(along with the TV Comic stories) came at the same time as television stories ...

The only Who book range I read all the way through. But I never collected them as such. (I think as I still have some books I borrowed, they may count as stolen by now...)

Yes, just a few.

While pretty well-written, they never captured the era(s) they were supposed to be set in.

Re: THE VIRGIN "NEW ADVENTURES" NOVELS: Did You Collect Them (and Did You Give Up On Them)?

Started, but abandoned them during one of the Cat's Cradle books.

They are utterly appalling. Nothing to do with Doctor Who.

In later years, I borrowed copies of selected "classics" from people, and never got through a single one of them.
