Re: Shada 4th December

The latest SHADA discussion on GB blows my mind because people are getting all bent out of shape about some embargoed content on the third disk -- which automatically must mean missing episodes, right? RIGHT? <why isn't there a facepalm emoticon here?>

Re: New Doctor announced on Sunday

Well I have to give Mr. Chibnall credit. He found a really elegant way of separating the 'men from the boys', or in this case separating the open-minded fans from the really myopic twits who have pervaded in fan circles for the last few decades. It's like a Doctor Who fandom enema. (And yes, it's a...

Re: New Doctor announced on Sunday

Here's some food for thought: It may actually keep the show on the air longer (regardless of poor ratings) as the optics of killing the show so soon after it's gender swap stunt will not be good -- and it will deny the feminist hardliners a victory lap. No one in upper managemant wants to be the per...

Oh dear, I hope not. Pretty dreadful performance from Pertwee in that.

They'd be better off with Sean P. in a wig.

Re: Rate "The Doctor Falls"

As for Hartnell, a lot of the he's holding back the change was also written into novels and the like but he is holding it back in The Tenth Planet that is very obvious! By the way who exactly was that blue alien and what was he doing on a ship from Mondas anyway? JB My theory is that the ship wasn'...

Since when could a Time Lord hold back regenerating through sheer force of will? It was always a simple biological process before that occurred when their body was too old or badly damaged to continue. "Only hate keeps me alive. Re: The Series Ten Spoiler Thread

Bradley as Hartnell worked fine in the context of a docudrama. Same for the 20-something in a wig who looked and acted nothing like Troughton, but at least they kept his screen time to a minimum. But casting Bradley as the First Doctor in the show proper is kind of a piss take if you ask me. Does th...

Re: Rate "The Doctor Falls"

The real interesting takehome from this was that Cybermen emergence will happen to groups of humanoids who embrace technology without the wisdom to temper it's use. This apparently has happened multiple times (and across multiple parallel realities it seems). It actually puts Tennant's line ("It's h...

Re: Rate "World Enough and Time"

As so many have said, it was such a shame they revealed Simm's appearance in advance. It undermined what should have been a fantastic twist. It would have been better not to have revealed the Cybermen beforehand either. Sadly, it seems to be increasingly common these days with trailers both for TV ...

Re: Rate "World Enough and Time"

Pronunciation of 'Modasian' threw me for a bit as I had always pronounced it 'Mon-dasian' versus 'Mond-ass-ian'. Potayto/Potahto. Add brit/scots regional accents in there and it's up to interpretation. It's not like we haven't seen the Doctor (or the actor playing him) have weird pronunciations befo...

Re: Rate "World Enough and Time"

A couple of strange things about the 'Bill' Cyberman... It doesn't open it's mouth to speak like a TENTH PLANET cyberman, but it looks like it's using that voice synthesizer seen earlier in a Stephen Hawking-esque way. Sounds more like a cross between the TP voice and the Moonbase laryngectomy box s...

Re: Rate "World Enough and Time"

It's worth noting that next week's episode will be the first that shows different types of intact Cybermen directly interacting, something that has never happened even in the classic series. (I don't count the scope footage of the different cybermen in EARTHSHOCK or the Turk in NIGHTMARE IN SILVER).

Re: Rate "World Enough and Time"

I've had more time to digest the episode now: As others have noted, this story may not actually contradict THE TENTH PLANET and SPARE PARTS as much as it seemed on first viewing. That said, the level of tech and the desperate crunch for resources shown in SPARE PARTS doesn't quite square with the la...

Re: Rate "World Enough and Time"

Well, for an episode that managed to take a crap on both THE TENTH PLANET and SPARE PARTS it sure did it in spooky, atmospheric style. I couldn't stop watching, even as my beloved Cybermen continuity (such as it was) was being flushed down the drain. Doctor Who -- at its best -- rewriting and reinve...

If you go by the print numbers then Doctor Who Magazine is also circling the drain.

I really hope the penultimate and finale don't mess with the continuity of either THE TENTH PLANET or SPARE PARTS. That would be a damn shame.

Re: Rate "The Eaters of Light"

Well, its pretty plain to see where Munro's story ends and where Moff's "script editing" begins (or at least where new series writers are schooled in what to include in their scripts, probably by a checklist). It's even more painfully obvious with a classic series writer on board this time -- Nardol...

Re: Rate "The Eaters of Light"

The other thing that I don't get at all is that Bill is constantly forced to explain her sexuality because all these gormless blokes seem to fancy her. I'm not sure why, but there's been a few. I'm not seeing it personally, but Bill is getting better since she took that ridiculous bow out of her ha...
