Re: Competition Time - win a copy of Damaged Goods

Thanks to BF, CWW, and Mike.

The original Doctor Who novel I'd like to see adapted into audio would be _Cold Fusion_. It's the only Virgin multi-Doctor story and it would be a great cast reunion for Peter, Matthew, Janet, and Sarah. Runner up story would be The Infinity Doctors.

Re: Rate "Dark Water"

So let me get this straight. We have a classic series character who was shown to resort to extraordinary means to cheat death on many occasions -- force of will, stealing bodies/lives, inheriting animal traits and reverting themselves to a child among them. Changing gender is probaby one of the leas...

Re: Rate "Kill The Moon"

Oh and how daft was the 'turn off your lights' bit?

Erm, ever heard of street lights?

And if the utilities decided to shut the whole grid down, well doesn't that remove the freedom of choice for most of the people in the larger cities? Sort of defeats the point.

Re: Rate "Kill The Moon"

And there is another annoying point, scientifically, that goes astray. One that pops up annoyingly often in SF. Multiple nuclear bombs... Contrary to popular opinion, more doesn't mean more in nuclear weapons terms. Because each of those bombs has its own timer and each of those timers has their own...

Re: Rate "The Caretaker"

I really do feel almost completely detached from this nonsense now - it has nothing to do with the original series at all anymore. If RTD Who was a watered-down, Xeroxed Doctor Who-lite version, this stuff is a watered-down, Xeroxed version of that. And that is not something that appeals or interes...

Re: Rate "The Caretaker"

7/10 This is one of those paradigm subverting stories that NuWho likes to dust off and use, perhaps a little too often now. It's like every series has to have a 'lite' episode be it Doctor-lite, companion-lite, etc. In this instance it's Who format-lite. The monster of the week is there only for the...

Re: Rate "Listen"

New observations: Dan Pink is a former solider, suffering from PTSD or some traumatic event, currently teaching maths in a school. Victim of timey-wimeys inadvertantly caused by the Doctor's companion. Also a Colonel, when we first meet him. Doesn't sound like any other character ever in the history...

Re: Rate "Listen"

SPOILERS AHOY! My first impression was "WTF did I just watch?". On second viewing it makes a lot more sense and actually is qute tense and enjoyable. Solid 7/10. Analysis: In all the gnashing of teeth from others about the child Doctor I don't see anyone addressing the other big bombshell dropped th...

Re: Rate "Listen"

That might have been a better idea. A neutral accent maybe? A lot of people tend to think English accent, posh. Yes a neutral accent or an English one which we readily associate with the Doctor. After all we're not use to the Doctor having regional accents. "Lots of planets have a north" Addressed ...

Re: Anthony Coburn's son claims TARDIS copyright

pretty much EVERYONE in the music biz prior to the late 70s had a sh*t contract, and then when older bigger selling groups got wise, all the punk/new-wave bands got signed on cr*p contracts too. Genius! :0) 8-) Newsflash for you Feline, The few contracts they are handing out these days are just as ...

Re: Rate The Vampires of Venice

Some are poo-pooing the fact that the vampires are proven to be aliens but IMO this is more fitting with Doctor Who of old. My reading of the scene where he's surrounded by the girls is that he's already figured out that they aren't a) Great Vampires or b) Haemovores so he's delighted that they are ...

Re: Rate Victory of the Daleks

Thought this episode was a bit cack myself. However, I have to wonder if Moffat has deliberately made these Daleks so obviously over-the-top silly and rubbish (wtf was up with the hump backs?) that there's more going on than meets the eye. Couple that with the Amy-doesn't-remember-huge-alien-invasio...

Re: Rate "The Eleventh Hour".

Right from the opening moments, Matt Smith gave an engaging performance and made the part his own immediately, I was hooked. The Eleventh Hour represents a good season opener, I am looking forward to Saturdays again for the first time in too many ages. Loved the brief clips of all the old Doctors, ...

Re: Happy Birthday, New Who!

The thing I remember most about this anniversary was the early leak of a workprint of "Rose" onto the usual corners of the internet by an employee of the CBC. In a lot of ways that gave NewWho a bit of a kick in the pants publicity-wise that it would never have gotten if it quietly premiered in the ...

Re: The Series 5 Spoiler Thread

I think this is a temporary set. They've trashed the original one and we know from other spoilers that the Doctor is pulled right into his next adventure without so much as a rest. In fact, there could be a few stories in a row where he never gets around to fixing it. We've seen many times in the or...
