Re: Adventure vs."Preachy Message": Is the Balance Right or

Other than Jodi talking directly to the camera at the end of Orphan 55, I don't think the show has been more "preachy" than it was during Moffat or RTD's eras. The show's main issue is generally mediocre writing. If episodes were better constructed, with logical plots and character development, nobo...

Re: Rate "Ascension of the Cybermen” (Part 1)

Oh and I do really hope the finale is a complete game changer. Nu Who has never done a War Games type of rewriting the series premise. Apart from having the Doctor fall in love with Rose or Clara rewrite history, at least. (Not in a good way, in other words.) Both of those were nonsensical - arguab...

Re: The Martin Doctor: Canon?

After watching this week's episode, I'm now half expecting the reveal to be that Ruth is part of an "inbetween" set of regenerations (as insane as that sounds) via Time Lord tech. Sort of along the lines of TNG's "Inner Light" episode.

Re: Rate "Ascension of the Cybermen” (Part 1)

I thought that was quite enjoyable, although I'm not sure if the episode was great in itself or if it just felt great in contrast to most of the past two series. The only thing is that it needs to stick the landing, which is something Doctor Who has had a lot of trouble with. I'm feeling a strong 7 ...

Re: Rate "The Haunting of Villa Diodati"

Thank goodness we got an episode was was okay. I liked the atmosphere in this one and unlike the Judoon episode you can actually watch this as an episode unto itself rather than purely set-up (even though it's obviously a lead-in to the finale).

I'm feeling a decent 7.

Re: The Whittaker Companions: Who is the Worst One?

I have nothing against any of the actors, but I think it's pretty clear that Ryan feels the most awkward this season. He hasn't had much to do and in most episodes it seems like his role is just being the young, handsome bloke who flirts with the ladies. His dyspraxia has barely been referenced and ...

Re: Rate "Can You Hear Me?"

Well I've saw plenty of "all time classics" that haven't won me over. But even if it isn't a ten (and I don't think these polls are scientifically accurate) the feeling the episode gave me made me vote ten. Fair play mate... If people can vote 1/10 week after week there's no reason you can't do the...

Re: Rate "Can You Hear Me?"

Actually, that whole conversation (and the earlier ones that led into it) tells us that the Doctor is around 450 years old, and that he had a family - which actually indicates that Pat wasn't his second regeneration, more likely his 5th or later... Why? The First Doctor is the only one who regenera...

Re: Future Female Doctors: An Inevitability?

I don't know if it's inevitable, but I'm fine with it. Any issues with Whittaker is an issue with Whittaker and/or the writing for her incarnation. However, I do suspect that Chibnall or whoever is the showrunner when Jodi leaves will have a lot of pressure put on them to cast a more "traditional" D...

Re: Rate "Can You Hear Me?"

And geez, the Doctor's reaction to poor Graham's confidence to her about his fears of cancer were awfully unDoctorlike, IMHO. Although maybe Peter Capaldi could have pulled that reaction off, since that's kind of how his Doctor was characterized. Isn't this female Doctor supposed to be more empathe...

Re: Rate "Can You Hear Me?"

Positives: I did just criticize Chibnall's Who for not going out of the series' comfort zone and this was certainly something different from the norm. Negatives: It was a pile of gobbledygook. For beings that were supposedly on the level of the Guardians and the Eternals, these two sure were defeate...

Re: Rate "Praxeus"

What further depresses me is that Chibbers and Moffat are self confessed long term fans of the show but they seem to have learned nothing about character development for Tardis crew or serving up what has sustained the it since 1963. Contrast with Mark Gatiss whose fanboy love of classic Who shines...

Re: Rate "Praxeus"

With the environmental theme, comparisons with "Orphan 55" are inevitable. I think this came off as less camp and better handled than that previous episode, but also a bit duller and less memorable. Like, you could have told me this episode was filmed during series 11 and I'd have completely believ...

Re: Series 13: What Would You Like to See?

Assuming Jodi follows the "three series and then out" rule that NuWho actors seem to follow, I'm guessing series 13 will have a regeneration near the end of it. Beyond that, I feel they really should to go back to just one companion. Nothing against the current actors, but the writers simply haven't...

Re: The Martin Doctor: Canon?

Obviously she's canon because she's in the series and has appeared on screen. Whether the explanation for her makes sense or is consistent with other established canon is the real question. I think she's definitely NOT a "Season 6B" Doctor because most fans have no idea what Season 6B is and it woul...

Re: Rate "Fugitive of the Judoon"

I quite liked this episode, with the caveat that I realize it was mostly setting up more mystery boxes for later and was pretty light on substance in and of itself. Captain Jack... it was fun to see him again even though it was basically just paying John Barrowman to stand in a room to spout dialogu...
