Re: Rate "Nikola Tesla’s Night of Terror"

It was the standard mid-season monster runaround with a historical character that modern era Who has done since the Dickens episode in series 1. The Good: The supporting cast, minus the villain. I was happy to see Goran Višnjić working after Timeless was cancelled. Thought he was great as Tesla. The...

Re: Rate "Orphan 55"

I mean, say what you will, but the frog was at least one thing from series 11 that seemed like a genuine attempt at something new and memorable instead of reheated porridge from RTD and Moffat era scripts.

Re: Rate "Orphan 55"

I tend to often give it a higher score than it probably deserved. That’s what happens when you post just after watching it. :D Take revenge in your absent mother by blowing her workplace up? That’s a fairly common occurrence I would have thought, I think was definitely giving scores higher th...

Re: Rate "Orphan 55"

While I appreciate the attempt at incorporating some old school social commentary, I think it would have been better if they tried to make it allegorical and didn't have the planet literally be Earth. The Doctor's speech at the end was a bit cringe. For the most part though, I thought it was a perfe...

Re: Rate "Spyfall Part 2"

Unfortunately all the good stuff in this felt like set up for futures episodes. It was like a 2 episode trailer for the rest of the series If you're referring to the "Timeless Child" mystery box Chibs threw on top of everything, it's really a case of ten times burnt and twice shy for me. One thing ...

Re: Rate "Spyfall Part 2"

Whatever I was expecting from this episode, it certainly wasn't 45 minutes of "The Chase" followed by the RTD era status quo, but with the Master replacing the Daleks. Nazis as generic bad guys for the Master to work with felt lazy. Resolving the cliffhanger with Bill and Ted time travel tactics fel...

Re: Rate "Spyfall Part 1"

Do we need to have the Master hating the Doctor again explained? I mean, the new incarnation might just be generally more vindictive than Missy was. This is one instance where I don't think I need a continuity reference and can just accept that most versions of the Master are a nasty piece of work.

Re: Series 12 Ratings Thread

4.88 Million. Discuss. I suspect the year long gap after a fairly dull series 11 saw a lot of people lose interest. I know I barely paid any attention to Who in 2019 and rarely saw anyone talk about it on social media. I even brought up that I read the show was returning on New Year's to my mom at ...

Re: Rate "Spyfall Part 1"

I never expected to start the new decade with a pretty decent episode. I was at a 6 for most of the running time as it was slow but serviceable, but IMO the cliffhanger was honestly one of the better ones since the series returned in 2005. I'd give it a strong 7. The aliens actually felt threatening...

Re: SERIES 12 SPOILERS

Some rumour circulating around GB that the regeneration is still on for Christmas 2020, and that there will also still be a new year special for a new Doctor. Series 12 is said to be eight episodes, and the BBC are thinking of dumping them on I-Player first. Eight episodes? That'd be a kick in the ...

Re: Rate “Resolution”

I think it’s similarly unfair to lump all of New Who together. I mean, look at the quality of RTD’s first season compared to Chibnall’s risible effort. Really, if something is purporting itself to be Doctor Who, then it should be judged as such. I’d give Tomb of the Cybermen 10/10, I adore it. I’ve...

Re: Rate “Resolution”

So, the members of this board voted TUAT - you know, the one which desecrates the memory of Hartnell - higher than this - you know, the one with a crap doctor, crap companions, slow middle... sound familiar? It wasn't that, or TUAT, bad. Jodie's the worst doctor for sure, but there were positives h...

Re: Rate “Resolution”

I gave it a high mark because in the context of the season I thought it was decent. As I may have said earlier, I suspect people are rating episodes on the "Chibnall-o-meter" which takes account of their expectations. Hence "Resolution" might get a high score because they think that for Chibnall , ...

Re: Rate “Resolution”

I guess I'll have to be the contrarian and say I thought this was an improvement over the bulk of series 11. It wasn't without its flaws, certainly. I agree about Ryan's dad and the warriors at the beginning feeling like filler, the ending was cheese (so the woman who the Dalek forced to kill a bunc...

Re: Rate “The Battle of Ranskoor Av Kolos”

It was so-so. I could accept Tzim-Sha as a villain for the opener because the first episode was supposed to establish the new Doctor and companions and therefore they needed a fairly straightforward plot, but he isn't a very interesting baddie and I never cared to see him return. I really don't see ...

Re: Rate “The Witchfinders”

I'll have to echo a few others in that I thought the first half where the TARDIS crew had to deal with the more realistic threat of human ignorance was more compelling than the second half with the generic mud aliens. I wasn't sure what to make of Alan Cumming's performance as King James at first, b...

Re: SERIES 12 SPOILERS

if the workload is too much why not get in someone else to be showrunner every other year? That would give more variety and less chance of someone taking the programme for a 7 year ego trip... I'd be up for this idea. It's hard to imagine the show could get any less consistent than it's been in the...

Re: Rate “Kerblam!”

By modern Doctor Who standards it was a perfectly okay episode. Very straightfoward with few surprises, just like most of series 11. I do find it interesting that we seem to have gone from the Moffat era where any idea would be thrown at the wall, no matter how bad it might be, to the Chibnall era ...
