Re: Rate "Twice Upon a Time"

Finally got around to watching it. I'd say it was pretty average for Moffat era Who. I knew there'd be tons of fan service going into it. I was bracing myself for Moffat to tear a bunch of continuity to shreds or something that would make me cringe, but aside from making the First Doctor wear the so...

Re: Series 11 Wishlist.

Off the top of my head: 1. Well-written stories that are logical and make sense. 2. Well-written characters who act logically and in a way which makes sense within their established personalities and motivations. 3. Character development that unfolds logically and makes sense based on events that un...

Re: The 13th Doctor's Rig-Out...

Apparently, some geezer called Patrick Goddard tweeted up this concept art for her rig-out, then deleted it. Looks slightly better as a drawing than the real thing, but not by much. https://i.imgur.com/abZQpUl.jpg https://twitter.com/PaddyGod1/status/928639410048061440 I agree, the concept art does...

Re: Series 11 Spoiler Thread

The new costume is lacking something to make it distinctive or memorable, IMO. However. I have friends who have commented positively on it and like it because it's "cosplay friendly". When she takes that coat off she's going to look like some lost woman on the beech.. besides the coat, not very Doc...

Re: Series 11 Spoiler Thread

Apparently Radio Times will have a major feature on the new series in about two weeks time, and a summary of what was in it has been leaked As has been long rumoured the series will be fully serialised telling one (main) story. What hadn't been mentioned before is that Chibnall will be writing the ...

Re: New Doctor announced on Sunday

Even if that's the case it all comes back on the writers to sort it out and tell good stories. Yes but the writers will be all too aware (unless they're terminally naive) of certain creatively restrictive 'pressures', nay impediments now prevelant from certain quarters when devising female/ethnic m...

Re: New Doctor announced on Sunday

Honestly I don't get the upset. The show is basically science fantasy at this point. If some of the episodes that have aired in the past few years haven't "ruined" the show, then I don't see how casting a female actor will. As always, it comes down to the writing. Mark my words, if Chibnall and his...

Re: Rate "The Doctor Falls"

I have to agree with those saying this episode was a mixed bag. The episode was very meandering. It felt like most of it was spent building up to a final battle which consisted of the Doctor very literally waving the sonic screwdriver around like Harry Potter waving his magic wand. After a very good...

Re: Rate "The Doctor Falls"

Moffat gave us the first Lesbian Cyberman, just think about that. You mean she was a lesbian!!!! I would never of guessed. Now she's a water based immortal lesbian being. That bit at the end where Bill said something about liking people who are young and female and then just went off really had me ...

Re: Rate "World Enough and Time"

Why was the Master disguised? Well, he did allude to his period as Harold Saxon, but I think it basically comes down to what he said afterwards: He likes disguises.

Re: Rate "World Enough and Time"

Best episode of the season, easily. It was delightfully creepy and well-paced. Just two parts that felt pretty stupid: 1. The five minute "Doctor Who" meta-joke. Utterly unnecessary. 2. Bill's tear with the whole "zoom in" on her eye. Again, unnecessary and undercut the impact of the final few momen...

Re: Classic Who vs. NuWho

Maybe Moffat is Cartmel for the 21st Century Insofar as he will finally get the praise he deserves in a decade, yes. Stephen Moffat has received an OBE and industry/fan recognition. Some of his stories are the most highly regarded (Blink, Silence in the Library etc)...it's just that a handful of th...

Re: Rate "The Eaters of Light"

All I'll say about the crow thing is that it was all implicit. It could all just have been coincidence that the crow(s) made the sounds it/they did in the episode. IMO, they did just enough without going overboard with it. I could suspend my disbelief exactly as far as the episode took it.

Re: Rate "The Eaters of Light"

I thought this episode was fine. Not brilliant, but no major complaints. Average Nu Who - even slightly above average on the whole for the current series. I'm feeling a light 7.

Re: Rate "The Eaters of Light"

Terrible stuff. First half of the season - really pretty good Second half - Unutterable sh*te EDIT - Unless a curve ball is pitched our way, and with this awful show runner's addiction to timey wimey nonsense it is likely I guess, it seems fairly clear that Missy is not the Master, but has been use...

Re: Anybody else Hate Missy?

It's too late to change the character to the Rani. It would just be a cop out at this point, not a fix. I agree that revealing Missy as another character two series later would feel cheap. I wouldn't want her to be the Rani anyway. Missy is nothing like the Rani. Hey, maybe Missy can turn out to be...

Re: Rate "The Empress of Mars"

Well, that was... surprisingly quite enjoyable. It actually might be my favourite Gatiss-penned episode since "The Unquiet Dead". Hooray for low expectations? Sure, the soldiers (aside from the Colonel) mostly acted dumb as hell, but at least their motivation had a sort of understandable internal lo...

Re: Rate "The Lie of the Land"

They were the main villains and two episodes were just spent building them up. I don't know about everyone else, but I thought they were made out to be a pretty big deal right up until the ending. True. And entirely the point of the episode...puffed up villains that were actually "outed" as nothing...
