Latest rumours, I am not going to get too excited as we have been here before, but apparently there will be some sort of announcement on tuesday 26 March about the 50th anniversary, so maybe there is something too them.

They're probably just idle rumours, but I hope he regenerates soon and if nothing else, "the fall of the eleventh" mentioned in Series 6 was suggestive.

According to this report in the Sun last August, and I quote;"MATT SMITH will keep playing Doctor Who until at least 2014, he has revealed."

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sh ... -2014.html

The thing is, whatever happens Britain's favourite paper will be able to claim it woz right.

Well, since most of those reports contradict each other... Matt wants the fans to campaign for him to be a Bond Villain, Matt IS a Bond Villain, BBC have no idea who will replace him, BBC bosses already know who will replace him, etc, etc, etc, I would say that there is a single-source rumour to all this which has been misheard and misquoted all over the place, and people are "inventing" sources...

Matt would be stupid (which he isn't) if he wasn't keeping one eye on his future career (Hollywood or otherwise) but by all accounts he's managing to do that while still being the current Doctor Who. He will leave at some point. I see no evidence that this point is "now" because didn't all the papers say he was going to leave after Last Year's Christmas Special? Didn't they say he was going to leave Last Year before the Xmas Special? Don't they Always say this about the current Doctor???? They certainly did about Tennant.

It's the law of averages isn't it? Say it often enough and sooner or later you will be right, and can claim it as a victory!!!

So, they may actually turn out to be right, but it'll be pure guesswork on their part if they are, and not some mysterious "source"...

Kind Regards
Dave

Please do not misunderstand this post, this is a genuine question, not a rhetorical one, because I'm confused:

How would Daphne Ashbrook know?

Kind Regards

To the extent that she would know about Smith's contract? Really? :?

Although I wouldn't waste my time or money on The Sun, it wouldn't surprise me if there was some truth in this story. It may have been leaked out because contractual negotiations are taking place - but Smith nabbing the cover of Entertainment Weekly and British actors' current profile in Hollywood might be enough to signal to his agent that there might be offers worth pursuing.

It will, of course, all come down to money - not least to the cash-strapped BBC.

Ah well, if it's there in the papers, must be the truth. So who will be number 12?

Gosh, they may have to wheel out the magic crystal of Zog before too long.

I am hoping for Jason Watkins, failing that Hugh Bonneville, failing that Alex Jennings. It wont be any of them, but I can dream.

I'd sooner keep Matt Smith than have Benedict Cumberbatch, Matt may be a bad doctor, but at least he is a good actor. Benedict overacts something shocking (although not as much as the ranga in CSI Miami)!

Matt Smith is the best Doctor since Paul McGann, maybe even better.

I disagree, Tennant, followed by Tom Baker for me. Paul is certainly up there, but it's hard to say how close to the top, with only one tv movie to go by.

Actually I judge Paul's ability to play the Doctor from the Big Finish audios. Their canonicity may be suspect, but they give a better indication on how he would have gone on to play the character (had a TV series developed from the Telemovie) than the Telemovie itself does, since that was - of course - his first stab at it (and he spends much of the film wandering around confused and post-regeneration-ey)!!!

Kind Regards
Dave

Edited to add: It's also far less cluttered with all this non-Doctor-Who-ey stuff like being half human etc...

That sounds perfectly reasonable, however I have never heard one, so I can at least at this stage only judge his performance from the movie which (especially given the overall shambles of the movie) was most impressive, I'd love to see him in a multi doctor story in the revived series!

But there isn't just one TV Movie to go by-there are more than sixty audio stories as well, in which for me, Paul has proved himself to be among the best Doctors. Certainly in my top three (with Tom and Matt).
