The Twelfth Doctor, actor Peter Capaldi, has been invited to Boscombe near Bournemouth to unveil the town’s latest weapon in it’s fight against crime – a police box.
The 1960’s-style police box has been granted planning permission and organisers hope it will become a tourist attraction, as well as deterring crime in the area.
Local councillor and former mayor, Phil Stanley-Watts, first suggested the idea for the police box five years ago, and has told the Bournemouth Echo he intends to invite the new Doctor to the launch in November:
I’m trying to get Peter Capaldi to open it. I bumped into him when I was working as an extra on a play. I will contact the BBC so it will depend on what they say. This will put Boscombe on the map in a positive way. There used to be a lot of police boxes about. There’s going to be a police presence there. I think it does a number of things and it’s an attraction in itself.
The BBC has yet to respond to the invitation but we’ll keep you posted.
