SHERLOCK – VICTORIAN SPECIAL AIRS ON NEW YEAR’S DAY

Steven Moffat has revealed that the highly anticipated Sherlock special will air on New Year’s Day 2016.

He told fans at London Comic Con yesterday:

I can exclusively reveal that the long wait for Sherlock will begin again in the late evening of January 1st.

A trailer for the special, which is set in the Victorian era, was released earlier this month.

Steven Moffat appeared at Comic Con along with Sherlock co-creator Mark Gatiss and producer Sue Vertue. Gatiss revealed the title of the special is The Abominable Bride, a reference to Ricoletti of the club foot and his Abominable Wife, a case Sherlock investigated in Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s novel but one he never actually wrote.

the New Year’s Day special will not be connected with the modern day series but is a standalone episode in which the characters will appear in traditional 19th century costumes and settings, minus the tech of the hugely successful modern series.

Steven Moffat said:

We’ve got, I think you can safely say, the Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson of a generation – we want to see them do it in the proper outfits, just once!
